Rotherham hotel plan approved for historic foundry despite Historic England warning

Rotherham Council has approved a 138-room hotel at the Grade II-listed Guest & Chrimes foundry, overruling strong objections from Historic England about demolishing two fire-damaged wings. The scheme keeps the northern range and the water tower entrance, aiming to revive a site empty since 1999. Planners said regeneration benefits outweigh the heritage harm, pushing the long-stalled site into construction.
