Since Martin O’Neill left on 1st June 2000, Leicester City has had no less than 17 managers, nine have been appointed since Milan Mandaric took over the club in 2007.
Milan Mandaric, the 69-year-old Serbian has invested around £13m of his own money into Leicester City but his constant hiring and firing managers has lead to instability and eventual relegation of Leicester City from the Coca-Cola Championship.
Ian Holloway’s future as the latest Leicester City manager, the fifth this season (if you can both caretaker managers), must be in doubt. Holloway was already quoted in The Guardian as saying, ‘Statistically, I’m the worst Leicester City manager in history, and that doesn’t sit well’. Not if your boss is Milan Mandaric it doesn’t!
This season The Foxes have been plagued by managerial changes. Martin Allen left after just four games, then Gary Megson left for Bolton Wanderers after a further six weeks. Between Megson and Ian Holloway Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart took over as caretaker managers for a full four weeks!
But on Sunday, after a battling 0-0 result with Stoke City, Leicester City were relegated from the Coca-Cola League Championship and will play in the third tier of English football for the first time in thier history. At the beginning of the campaign, championship relegation betting wouldn’t have expected them to be in trouble, so this makes it even worse.
Milan Mandaric told BBC Radio Four’s Today Programme that he will consider his own future at the club following their relegation from the Championship, as well as others.
Leicester City fans must be in two minds. Surely they are convinced that Mandaric is to blame for the team’s relegation, but who will step in & finiancially save Leicester City & bring back the glory days of UEFA Cup football and beyond?
