Back when Newcastle United were relegated from the Premier League, Mike Ashley pleaded for a quick sale of the club and announced that he was cutting the asking price to just £100million, he also said that he hoped a buyer would be found by the end of June.
In between time the media have continued to speculate over various would be buyers, most recently former Newcastle chairman Freddie Shepherd and the Singapore based Profitable Group are believed to have shown an interest in the purchase, but so far there have been no offers reported.
Last week current Newcastle Managing Director, Derek Llambias claimed that he had recieved at least two bids that were acceptable to the club, but no further news has emerged regarding who the bidders are and what the current position is.
He says that he is currently trying to put together a deal involving a ’syndicate interested in football and then investing with us in Newcastle.’
While Chawke has approached and is currently talking to Newcastle’s finance and legal people, any offer would be dependant upon putting together a team of around eight investors.
