Despite the problems off the pitch, Newcastle United hae enjoyed a fantastic unbeaten start to life in the Championship, recording two wins and a draw the club are among the top six teams all on seven points.
It is early days of course, but what Alan Shearer would have given for a similar string of results last season is anybody’s guess. One of the Newcastle players revelling in his own form is striker Shola Ameobi, who has already found the net four times including his hat trick against Reading.
Ameobi has lived in the shadows of both Alan Shearer and Michael Owen during his time with Newcastle, but at last he is revelling in the chance to make a lasting impression in the first team.
The 27 year old Nigerian born striker made his debut for Newcastle in 2000, showing a lot of promise but has only managed 193 appearances during that time, scoring 36 goals. Ameobi also gained 20 under 21 caps for England scoring seven times.
